Surfactants are produced from petroleum derivatives and natural gas can cause environmental pollution because it can produce waste that is difficult to degrade. So it is necessary to develop the production of surfactants that do not pollute the environment for example Alkyl polyglycosides, here will be produced surfactant alkyl polyglikosida other types by reacting Tertbutyl glycoside with oleic acid forming tertbutyl oleyl glycoside surfactants. The goal is to find process conditions can produce yields at most. The variables being studied here is the mole ratio (mole tert-butyl glycoside: mole oleic acid), temperature, and percent of catalyst. From observations, the best conditions are obtained at a mole ratio of 1:4, temperature of 90 degrees C and the percent of catalyst of 2%; and the yield obtained is 91.49%. The product quality was characterized by spectroscopy FTIR and determined by surface tension method. The result showed that tert-butyl oleyl glycoside had critical micelle concentration (CMC) of 0.018% and hydrophilic-lypophilic balance (HLB) of 3.89. Based on HLB value, the surfactant tert-butyl oleyl glycoside formed are water-in-oil (W/O) emulsifier.
