In this paper, it is proposed to reflect about the artistic work, with the focus in the experience of suffering, based on in-depth semi-structured interviews and observation of four artists working in the area of Florianopolis. The experiences of suffering experienced by these workers were analyzed in the light of the theoretical framework of the Psychodynamics of Work and of artistic work literature. It was noticed that these may be related to the working conditions to which these artists are subjected to, as well as the non-recognition of their activity as work, a circumstance that to render difficult the intensification of sublimatory processes and result in the aggravation of suffering experiences.
