Surgical management of renal artery stenosis and aneurysmal formation related to neurofibromatosis - A case report

Hypertension in neurofibromatosis can be caused by malformations of the renal artery. A young woman with neurofibromatosis and hypertension due to multiple aneurysms and stenoses of the renal artery was treated by direct vascular operative reconstruction. The diseased arterial segments were replaced by two saphenous vein grafts. During the ischemic period, the kidney was protected by Brettschneider's solution. Postoperatively, the blood pressure decreased to normal values. The case demonstrates a successful treatment of complex renal arterial disease in neurofibromatosis by advanced vascular surgical techniques.
