Centrifuge model study of deep excavation in soft clay

摘要
A series of centrifuge model tests has been conducted to investigate the pre-failure deformation of deep excavations in soft clay overlying stiff soil. Particular attention is made to evaluate the ground settlement at some distance behind the retaining wall during and after soil excavation. The effects of wall embedment depth in the lower stiff soil layer, wall support conditions and the strength of the upper soft clay stratum on the settlements of the retained ground are examined. In addition, the changes in pore pressure in the soil are also reported.
