Speckled, lentiginous nevus (SLN) is a congenital pigmented lesion in which macules or papules are superimposed on a light brown background patch. Histopathologically a lentigo-like pattern is visible in the background area, while junctional or compound nevi are found in the dotted maculopapular lesions. We describe a case of SLN localized on the right foot of a 57-year-old woman. The particular distribution of this lesion permits a discussion about the confusion of morphological terms used to indicate SLN or lentiginosis. Moreover we point out the problems about strict diagnostic criteria for SLN and the prognostic value of this lesion.
