摘要
We examined nine patients who developed head and neck cancer as asynchronous multiple cancer following radical surgery of esophageal cancer. These head and neck cancer cases included hypopharyngeal cancer in six patients, mesopharyngeal cancer in two patients, and laryngeal cancer in one patient. Treatment consisted of radical irradiation in five of the six patients with hypopharyngeal cancer, however, only one patient with stage 11 cancer survived without a tumor. and the prognosis was poor in other patients. Among the two patients with mesopharyngeal cancer. one patient underwent radical surgery and survived without a tumor, and the patient with laryngeal cancer recieved radiation therapy. and also survived without a tumor. It is. therefore, necessary to accurately evaluate whether patients can survive radical treatment for metachronously occurring head and neck cancer, and to choose a treatment method in the light of the quality of life (QOL) the patients will have, considering that they are already in poor general condition.
