Personal and interpersonal management skills for experienced professional engineers

A comprehensive survey of 4500 members of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand in 1987 indicated a strong need for continuing professional development and training in management subjects(1). Further in-depth research with professional engineers highlighted the need for management training in improving personal and interpersonal management skills as most important. A three day management training workshop was developed as a result, and this has since been run regularly at. Canterbury University during the last six years. Feedback from engineers has been very positive saying the course provides much needed opportunities for self development and learning.
