AN ANALYSIS ON THE WINNING FACTORS OF CONTRACTORS IN BIDDING COMPETITION: A CASE STUDY IN HONG KONG

The major factors which can mostly determine the bidding results are increasingly paid attention to by both contractors and clients at present. Following the rapid development of construction market, the project bidding becomes more and more competitive. As a result, every contractor wants to find the key affecting factors for bidding competition, and adjusts its performance according to the factors, in order to increase the possibility of winning in projects bidding. This paper aims to find out and examine the major factors which can affect the bidding result to a large extent. It also attempts to develop a model for Hong Kong's contractors when they prepare their tenders. Based on the research methods of questionnaire interview, comparative and clustering analysis, some findings and the development tendency will be concluded. It is found that the bidding price is not the only most important factor in the bidding process, but there are others involved in. Via a case study in Hong Kong - 'Tamar Development Project', this investigation will significantly improve our understanding of the identification of main indicators and new trend in project bidding in local area. This is also of significant value to both project clients and contractors in the construction industry.
