Effect of cutting revolution speed on cutting temperature in helical milling of CFRP composite laminates

摘要
CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) has higher specific strength, modulus of elasticity and so on. Cutting heat, however, may damage the CFRP when it exceeds glass transition temperature of epoxy resin, thus reducing its strength properties. Therefore, this paper presents investigations on the influence of rising revolution speed on cutting temperature on helical cutting of a CFRP laminate. It is found that the cutting heat becomes lower by increasing revolution speed. Cutting chips, which is pulverised into small size, reduce cutting temperature by absorbing cutting heat on the cutting of CFRP composite plate. Furthermore, compressed air supply is very helpful to cut CFRP materials for reducing heat source.
