Effect of silicon carbide reinforcement on mechanical and physical properties of aluminum matrix composites

摘要
The lineage of applied materials science is always in demand for light weight and highly performing materials. Such materials would find their applications in aerospace, structural, transportation and marine industries, etc. The present work focuses on the influence of silicon carbide (SiC) particles addition on the properties of AA6351 aluminum matrix composites produced by liquid metallurgy route (Stir casting). The weight fraction of reinforcement (SiC) was varied from 0% to 20% in a stage of 4%. The produced composites were examined by using an optical microscope. Density, hardness, yield strength and impact strength of the composite were investigated. The optical microscope microphotographs revealed the nearly uniform distribution of reinforcement. The results exhibited that the mechanical properties of the AMCs increase with the increase of the weight fraction of reinforcement. (c) 2018 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
