Provenance changes across the Pleistocene-Holocene boundary in the south-eastern Po Plain

The geochemical and mineralogical characterization of fine-grained deposits provides additional information on the late Quaternary depositional history of the south-eastern Po Plain. A homogeneous composition, reflecting an apenninic provenance, characterizes the investigated succession in the western par: of the study area. To the east, an important compositional change across the Pleistocene-Holocene boundary marks the transition from lowstand alluvial plain deposits of apenninic provenance to transgressive and highstand deltaic and coastal sediments, showing a major supply from a mixed, alpine-apenninic (Po river) source.
