Objective To analyze the condition of the mental health status of medical college students in Guangdong Province, China. Methods A research through the symptom check list 90 (SCL-90) and self-designed general information questionnaire was conducted to 2374 medical undergraduate students, grade 2008-2011 from 7 medical universities or colleges in Guangdong Province, China, selected by stratified random sampling. Results Each factor's score in SCL-90 is significantly higher than Chinese youth norm. The scores of depression and paranoid ideation were significantly lower, but the others were significantly higher than Chinese university student norm. Except paranoid ideation, the others' scores were higher than medical students in other provinces (P<0.01). Except depression and interpersonal sensitivity, the others' scores of male were lower than female's (P<0.05). Except depression and anxiety, the others' scores were significantly different between grades. There existed significant differences between schools in each factor. Conclusion Mental health education to the students with varying degree of mental problems in Guangdong medical college should be enhanced.
