Effect of phosphorus and zinc fertilization on grain yield and uptake by maize (Zea mays)

Effect of phosphorus and zinc application on their uptake and grain yield was studied in 'Parvati' maize (Zea mays L.) in field, in an acid soil with medium P status. The plant-tisue analysis at knee-high stage of maize growth revealed the non-inhibitory effect of P on Zn absorption by roots. In the above-ground plant tissues, both at knee-high and tasselling stages, P interfered with Zn translocation, showing reduction in its concentration and uptake. The correlation studies revealed that P : Zn ratio at knee-high and tasselling stages of maize played a significant role in Zn translocation and uptake. Maize responded significantly to the Zn application.
