摘要
The Mid-Coast Corridor Transit Project is an 11-mile northerly extension of San Diego's light rail transit (LRT) system. The project includes construction of numerous structures and doubletrack widening of shared portions with the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) commuter/freight/Amtrak rail corridor. Corridor widening civil improvements formed a physical "bottleneck" within a narrow channelized section of Rose Canyon (140 feet wide) located below the heavily traveled Interstate I-5 and State Route SR-52 interchange. Structures in this location include the relining of Rose Creek channel and various types of high retaining walls. Significant design and construction challenges presented themselves due to the geotechnical site condition. This case history addresses relevant considerations for the investigation, analyses, design, and construction of this key component of the project.
