摘要
In this paper, we attempt to examine the factors affecting the success of railway-based transit-oriented development (TROD) in Hong Kong. A case study of the Island Line on the Hong Kong Island is conducted. Detailed data, including the household car ownership rate, population density, employment density, length of bus routes and land use pattern, are collected at the street-block level within the 500-meter buffer area of each railway station. Multiple regression models are then built to explain the total station patronage, boarding passenger volume and alighting passenger volume. The results suggest that household car ownership rate plays a very important role in affecting all railway patronage variables while different land use variables are significant in affecting the volumes of total patronage, boarding and alighting.
