摘要
The present paper shows the advantages of using the railway system instead of the road transportation system by comparing the CO2 emissions per capita and per kg of these 2 transportation systems. There are considered the common diesel-electric and diesel-hydraulic types of locomotives used in Romania. First, passenger trains are compared with the automobiles, including buses and then the lower CO2 emissions of the cargo-trains compared with trucks are highlighted. The economic issue is also briefly discussed.
