ON THE DISTINCTION OF LIGHT AND GLORY IN DANTE'S PARADISE

This article takes into account the exegesis of the very first lines of Dante's Paradiso, as it is proposed in the third part of the Epistola a Cangrande, showing that the identification there suggested between the glory of God and His light is untenable on various grounds. On the contrary, maintaining the distinction between the two concepts allows one to keep safe the coherence of the sacred poem, both in itself and in its relationship with the Convivio and with other medieval philosophical sources.
