Effect of surface modification of magnesium hydroxide on the flammability, mechanical and thermal properties of EVA/Mg(OH)2 composites

摘要
Flammability and mechanical properties of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) resin filled with different concentrations (0-70%) of Mg(OH)2 were studied. The EVA composites loaded with 50% Mg(OH)2 treated with stearic acid, oleic acid and silane coupling agent were also investigated. It has been found that increasing the concentration of Mg(OH)2 improved the flame retardancy of EVA composites but it decreased the mechanical properties. Treatment of Mg(OH)2 with oleic acid and silane coupling agent led to good filler polymer interaction and well dispersion, which resulted in reduction of flammability and the improvement of mechanical and thermal properties.
