The present study investigated the recent concerns that have focused on elementary-school-aged children's preoccupations with weight, dieting, and body image A total of 221 first, second; and third- grade girls and boys completed a pictorial instrument designed to elicit ideal body image responses. Of the 121, 119 were interviewed following the ideal body image exercise. Results indicated that body dissatisfaction among children in these age groups was present. Females, even in Ist grade, exhibited more of a bins toward thinness than did males and were less satisfied with their bodies than males.
