摘要
The second-order hyperpolarizabilities of two groups of organic materials, retinal derivatives and mesoionic compounds, are obtained through measurements of nonlinear optical susceptibilities. The Z-scan technique was employed to characterize the sign and magnitude of the third-order nonlinear optical coefficient, whilst the Kerr Gate method was employed to infer the response time of the nonlinearity with 60fs resolution From these measurements, supported by quantum chemical theoretical calculations, the origin of the nonlinearity was determined for both materials.
