Contemporary Determinants of Organising Effective Protection of Civil Aviation Against Terrorism

The paper presents research results that focus on the organisation of effective counter-terrorism measures for civil air transport. The carried out research resulted in identification and characteristics of the features that play the key role in obtaining the necessary level of security in air transport. The authors also pointed out the diversity of means that could be used in the on both the aircraft and airport infrastructure, including jet fuel and explosives; the variety that poses a tremendous threat, not only for individuals but also for national security systems. Nowadays, almost every country in the world has a number of government agencies and units for counter-terrorism actions. At the same time, the potential of armed forces is increasingly more often used for such tasks. Moreover, there is a need to enhance the efficiency of air terrorism prevention that implies an unceasing search for new procedural and technological solutions for the forces responsible for air transport security. One such solution was the introduction of no-fly zones in the proximity of potential attack objects, including military and civilian airports. (C) 2018 The Authors. Published by Elsevier
