Integration of a data mining tool and a spreadsheet in knowledge discovery in databases

A new field of knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) and data mining has emerged as a solution to the limitation of traditional way of analyzing data when we have a very large quantity of data. KDD is the overall process to find useful knowledge from data. Data mining is a major step in this process. However, data mining simply discovers patterns in the data with the minimal human involvement and leaves the interpretation of the discovered patterns to humans. Spreadsheets can be a very useful tool by helping humans to interpret the patterns with its capacity to interact with humans to analyze and visualize the patterns.
