摘要
The paper describes urban structures as system of localized elements. The urban structure is divided into the smallest suitable elements - separate buildings. The elements are recognized to be of three general types according to the purpose for which the building is used - living places, working places and places of public attraction. The different categories of elements are interacting between each other according to how many visitors are going from one object to another. The weight of objects therefore is defined as a number of residents, workers or visitors. The case study of Kaunas city in Lithuania shows possibilities of described method applications and use in practice. The described method gives the better understanding of urban processes and is quite effective in solving many planning problems such as improving the public transportation network, choosing the best development alternative etc.
