摘要
A source of ultra cold (<= 10 meV) magnetically guided do electron beams with a transmission mode GaAs-photocathode recently started to be operated at the electron target of the Heidelberg Test Storage Ring. Photocathodes, cooled by liquid nitrogen, show lifetimes of about 10-15 hours at 0.2 mA currents. Atomic hydrogen cleaning was found extremely useful to keep the photocathodes in a closed cycle of operation without removing them from the vacuum setup and allows accordingly almost nonstop measurements with a cold electron target.
