Difficulties of cognitive assessment in children with cerebral motor disability

The paper analyzes the cognitive! skills of a group of children with Cerebral Motor Disability, as exhibited in the WISC-R and on two K-ABC subtests. The children's scores are related to sex, gestational age, birth weight, ne urological impairment, visual deficit and epilepsy. The results, which confirm the heterogeneous cognitive skills of these children and the importance of the visual-spatial impairment in their profile, make it possible to assume that: I) epilepsy lies heavy on cognitive processes; 2) above average cognitive-verbal skills partially compensate for motor and visual impairments; 3) the cognitive profile of these children is similar to that of children exhibiting severe learning disability with and without known cerebral impairment.
