In this study, the European Union Environmental Directives and Turkish Environmental Regulations on sludge management were analyzed and compared for their scopes and contents in order to find out how sludge management is regulated in National and Community level. Since the main focus is at urban sewage sludge in both Turkish and EU Legislations, a comparative case study is conducted for Sewage Sludge Directive (86/278/EEC) and its implementation in Turkey as well as in member states. Results were assessed within the context of Turkey's future EU accession, in terms of legislative compliance and compatibility.
