Based on land use data in Xilingol of Inner Mongolia in 1980, 1995, 2000 and 2005 as the data source, using ArcGIS and Fragstats software were processed and calculated data of land use and various types of landscape indices. Principles and methods of landscape indices constructed landscape loss index and regional integrated ecological risk index, and calculate its value at risk. Then study area is divided into a grid cell 5Km multiply 5km risk, and draw out the ecological risk distribution map of four periods data. The results show that from 1980 to 2005 great changes have taken place on the type of land use in study area. The amount of patches increased, dominant landscape threatened, and landscape tended to be fragmentized and isolated. Ecological risk has a tendency to focus and expand, especially in the middle eastern and southern regions of the study area. The results can provide scientific references for environmental management and ecological risk decision-making of pastoral areas in Inner Mongolia.
