Processing and properties of Nicalon-reinforced zirconium phosphate composites

摘要
Hot-pressed and phosphate-bonded Nicalon SiC fiber-reinforced ZrP2O7 matrix composites were made. The effects of variations in processing and fiber reinforcement on the composites' mechanical properties (strength, toughness, and thermal up shock resistance) were measured. ZrP2O7 reinforced with carbon-coated Hi-Nicalon SiC fibers has the best combination of strength, toughness, thermal up shock resistance, and low dielectric constant for use as an inexpensive composite faceplate in a laminated radome.
