Engineering geological environment and urban planning of the city of Patras, Greece

The engineering geological investigation which was carried out in the broader area of the city of Patras included the drilling of sampling boreholes as well as in situ and laboratory testing (cone penetration tests, cross-hole tests, soil classification and laboratory tests) for the determination of a representative geotechnical model for the urban planning of the studied area. Based on the interpretation of the available results, soil formations encountered in the foundation ground of the city have separated into individual geotechnical units and a series of engineering geological maps and sections were compiled. Furthermore, correlations of estimated parameters from in situ and laboratory test results are presented.
