Design and Measurement of Large Free-Standing Wire Grid Polarizer for Millimeter Waves

摘要
A free-standing wire grid polarizer with 25 mu m diameter Tungsten wire, 100 mu m wire spacing and 170x170mm aperture area is designed and fabricated. The power transmission and reflection coefficients are measured at 45 degrees oblique incidence within the frequency range of (183.3 +/- 16) GHz, and compared to the simulation results and theoretical calculation results. With consistency among the measurement, simulation and calculation results, the fabricated grid is proved to be nearly an ideal polarizer in the cases of wire orientation being parallel and perpendicular to the electric field vector. The fabricated grid can be used for polarization separation of remote sensing signals to different channels in a detection system of meteorological satellite payload.
