Dynamic Simulation of Large-scale Forest Scene for Wind Field

摘要
By analyzing the dynamic simulation problems of large-scale forest scene, we propose forest dynamics simulation method for wind field in OpenGL. Firstly, we make up branch structure similar to cylinder by using many quadrilateral patches, and construct 3D tree model based on fractal geometry; Then we cut up terrain by quadtree, construct forest scene by arranging trees, and use technology of the level of detail model to optimize the rendering efficiency of forest scene. By calculating the direction vector of each branch, we construct empirical formula of the swing angle under wind field, calculate the rotation angle of branches, and update the location and shape of branches. Through simulation experiments, dynamic simulation of large-scale forest scene under wind field by the above method, not only has a strong sense of reality, but also is of good real-time.
