When a thermoelastic material is subjected to a time varying stress field, the mechanical energy is dissipated in the form of heat due to the well-known thermoclastic effect. This process is known as elastothermodynamic damping. Evaluation of elastothermodynamic damping in fibre-reinforced MMCs has been reported in literature. These works follow a quasi-static approach. In the present work, a full dynamic solution incorporating the inertia forces has been presented. The effect of inertia forces on elastothermodynamic damping of fibre-reinforced MMCs is found to be more significant at high excitation frequencies, for large fibre radius and low fibre volume fraction.
