Fabrizio CALERONNI, Independence, equality, and posssession. Saint Just and the "Trinome Republicain". This article concentrates on the importance of the terms "independence" "equality" and "possession" in the political thought of Saint-Just, and on the originality of the theoretical form of "trinome" republican. This foundation of a new republican ethic, the expression of the affirmation of a moral order on a political order, and the regeneration of "moeurs" and the individual, is for Saint-Just the result of the recovery of the principles of Nature, principles which by the action of the trinome impedes the establishment of coercion and domination. In Saint-Just's view, the application of this original theoretical structure promotes a complete symbiosis between the individual and society. This does not mean the loss of individual liberty, but rather the achievement of republican liberty understood as non-domination, and conceived as a guarantee for the individual and for the republican city.
