Replaying the attack, thwarting the theater : French dramaturgies of terrorism (2002-2019)

From the antisemitic killings in Montauban and Toulouse in 2012 to the attack on Charlie Hebdo in 2015, from the attacks in Paris again in 2015 to the shooting in Strasbourg in 2018, France has been hit hard by terrorism in the last decade. It is not surprising, therefore, that theatre authors write on this subject, which is nevertheless resistant to theatre, opening up new poetic paths to say the unspeakable. It is these new paths that this article attempts to highlight through the study of a dozen French plays written between 2002 and 2019.
