LiNi0.85Co0.10Al0.05O2 sample prepared by solid state reaction at 725 degrees C for 24 h from (LiOHH2O)-H-., Ni2O3, CO2O3 and Al(OH)(3) under flowing oxygen were characterized by TG-DTA, XRD, SEM, DSC and electrochemical tests. LiNiO2 simultaneously doped by Co-Al has been tried to improve the cathode performance. The results show that co-doping definitely has a large beneficial effect in increasing the capacity (186.2 mAh/g of the first discharge capacity for LiNi0.85Co0.10Al0.05O2) and cycling behavior (180.1 mAh/g after 10 cycles) as well as thermal stability. It is one of the most promising cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
