Optimization of Q-factor in direct-coupled cavity-waveguide photonic crystal structures

摘要
In this paper, we analyze numerically the quality factor (Q-factor) of direct-coupled cavity-waveguide structures made within the square lattice photonic crystal by finite difference time domain method (FDTD) using the Harmonic inversion code based on the filter diagonalization method. We investigate the effect of point defect size and addition of size-graded rods on the Q-factor. Moreover, we investigate further increasing of Q-factor by tuning the position of dielectric rods between the cavity and waveguides. These structures with high Q-factor would be advantageous for applications in optical switching. (C) 2013 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.
