The Venezualan crisis (2001-2003): Economic and structural origins

After two years of state of grace (1999-2000), Chavez regime had to face in 2001-2003 a crisis of unequal strength in the country's history which led to the brink of financial abyss and civil war. How was it possible that a country as Venezuela for a long time considered as a rich country and a model for democracy in Latin America, might reach such a point? How can we explain this situation in the sight of political structures and economic circumstances? Why could not President Hugo Chavez' solutions take the country out of this slump? This work intends to bring some answers to a complex problem.
