Instrumental Inspection Methodology to Evaluate Corrosion in Transmission Line Glass Insulator Metallic Pins

摘要
This paper presents an experimental study of instrumental inspection techniques in transmission lines insulators to identify corrosion defects in glass insulators metallic pins. Tests were performed on insulators removed from service with different corrosion levels. The laboratory results indicate that the combined use of infrared thermography, ultrasound and ultraviolet measurement techniques are a promising tool in developing a method for predictive maintenance for glass insulators metallic pin corrosion(1).
