摘要
The purpose of this paper is to describe how Phase Noise effects SHF Satellite Communications (SATCOM), and the consequences of the current specifications in MIL-STD-188-165B. This paper leverages the definitions codified in IEEE Std 1139 (TM) - 2008 to show that the impact of Phase Noise on an M-ary phase shift key (PSK) carrier cannot be treated as additive white Gaussian Noise (AWGN) when SATCOM links have realistic energy-per-symbol to noise power spectral density ratio (E-s/N-o).
