The effect of substrate temperature on stress, magnetic anisotropy and magneto-resistance of Co-Ni films

The effect of substrate temperature (Ts) on the grain size, macroscopic stress, magnetic anisotropy and anisotropic magneto-resistance of the Co-Ni alloy films was studied. Co-Ni alloys exhibit large Δρ/ρ0. An X-ray diffractometer was used to measure the average grain size D and to indicate qualitatively the condition of stress in Co-Ni films. All of the films were predominantly (111)-face centered cubic (fcc) textured. The highest magnetoresistance sensitivity obtained among all the samples is about 0.2%/Oe from the Co30Ni70 film made with Ts = 180 °C.
