Distraction osteogenesis of free vascularized fibula flap in reconstructed hemimandible using intraoral distraction device

摘要
Mandibular reconstruction due to extensive bone defects is achieved by means of free vascularized flaps. The fibula flap seems to be ideal to achieve excellent results both functionally and aesthetically. Fibula advantages can become less effective when we deal with complex mandibular defects. Critical soft and hard tissue conditions of the recipient site can limit fibula versatility leading to sub-optimal reconstruction. The deleted distraction osteogenesis of the fibula flap after its transfer to the mandible represents a possibility to improve the mandibular reconstruction outcome.
