摘要
Experts share their views on the role of open source (OS) information and communication technology (ICT) frameworks in developing countries. OS software is software whose source code is published and accessible to everyone. Several licenses, such as GNU General Public License (GPL) of the Free Software Foundation, give users the freedom to download, use, distribute, or tailor the software to their needs. This radical model for developing free and OS software represents a significant shift in the way traditional closed source or commercial off-the-shelf software is being developed, distributed, maintained, and supported, and has produced a number of successful applications. Major factors influencing the adoption of OS software in developing countries outlined through the example of OpenSoftware, a new software development company.
