摘要
First record of the Peruvian Pelican Pelecanus thagus in Brazil and documented record of the Brown Pelican P. occidentalis for eastern Brazilian coast. We report the first record of the Peruvian Pelican for Brazil. One individual was flying over the sea off Santos (24 degrees 17'S; 46 degrees 19'S) in the state of Sao Paulo, on 22 March 2008. This record must refer to an individual that distanced itself from its area of distribution or was helped by boats, because this species is associated with fishing boats. A Brown Pelican was photographed in the state of Alagoas, at Ipioca Beach (09 degrees 31'S; 35 degrees 35'W), Maceio, while flying over the sea. In both records, the individuals were recorded during excursions without scientific aim. Thus we recognize here the importance of birdwatching to help increase knowledge of the distributional data of bird species.
