Methyl 1-(4-chlorobenzyl)-2-oxocyclohexane-1-carboxylate and methyl (2RS,4aRS,8aRS)-2-(4-chlorobenzyl)-3-oxo-perhydronaphthalene-2-carboxylate

In the title compounds, methyl 1-(4-chlorobenzyl)2-oxocyclohexane-1-carboxylate, C15H17ClO3, (I), and methyl (2RS,4aRS, 8aRS)-2-(4-chlorobenzyl)-3-oxoperhydronaphthalene-2-carboxylate, C19H23ClO3, (II), the cyclohexane rings adopt chair conformations. In (I), the carboxylate group is attached in an axial position and in (II), it is in a biaxial position. The dihedral angles between the mean planes through the cyclohexane ring and the phenyl substituent are 48.89 (9) and 24.61 (10)degrees in (I) and (II), respectively.
