摘要
Our society is on the cusp of a paradigmatic change regarding pain care issues and perspectives. Two competing health care paradigms currently exist, the traditional doctor centered paradigm and the emerging patient centered paradigm. The conflict between these two paradigms has social, political and economic consequences. These consequences lead to the under treatment of pain in our society. Awareness of these problems and attempts to foster true cultural education concerning pain care issues could facilitate movement toward the new paradigm. (C) 2004 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
