Academia industry co-operation in effective management of the industrial training of engineering students in Nigeria: a case study

The paper takes a look at the role of academia/industry co-operation in developing an effective management of sandwich industrial training of engineering students in Nigeria. The setting up of an industrial Training Fund (ITF) in Nigeria by Government as a national co-ordinating unit for management of industrial training of engineering students and other professionals is discussed. The historical review of adaptation of the engineering degree curriculum in Nigerian Universities to reflect the need for sandwich training is also discussed. Finally, problems encountered in implementing the sandwich industrial training of engineering students in the past fifteen years particularly at the University of Lagos are used as a case study.
