An UPnP based Media Distribution System supporting QoS in a Converged Home Network

摘要
In this paper, we present the design and implementation of an UPnP based media distribution system supporting priority-based Quality-of-Service (QoS) in a home network that converges data and multimedia traffic. We adopt two UPnP based standards, the UPnP AV architecture and the UPnP QoS architecture, for multimedia networking and QoS management among networked devices, respectively. Additionally, the IEEE 802.1 p/Q is adopted as it priority-based QoS scheme for an Ethernet-based home network. By combining two adopted architectures with the 802.1 p/Q QoS scheme and integrating them into a home gateway and multimedia devices, our system offers not only interoperability of media distribution among different networked devices but also easy to use management of QoS for multimedia.
