Notes on the Neapolitan stays in the Voyage en Italie by the architect Pierre-Adrien Paris (1745-1819)

Through the examination of manuscript notebooks, sketches, drawings and tables of architecture, the essay reconstructs the main stages of the three travels in southern Italy of the French architect Pierre-Adrien Paris, that were limited exclusively to sojourns in Naples and Campania; the paper also analyzes the perception and iconographic and descriptive restitution of the places and monuments visited, from that appears the remarkable interest of Paris for architecture and archeology. The documents examined, such as Journaux de voyage, Carnet de croquis, Etudes d'architecture, are just a part of the vast collection, digitalized and available online for consultation, preserved in the Paris Fund of the Municipal Library of Besancon.
