Extreme sea-level estimation for disaster mitigation on the coast of Korea

Sea-level changes due to tide, storm surge and wave set-up along the coast of Korea have been estimated using fine-scaled mesh coastal models. The offshore boundary conditions were obtained from large-scaled models covering the North East Asia Regional Seas. The water-level changes were obtained by the model simulations for the extreme storms for 20 years and for the typhoons for 47 years. Wave fields were also hindcasted first by regional scale wave model and then by shallow water wave transformation model. Extreme sea-levels with return periods along the coast of Korea were obtained by the statistical analysis of the long-term water-level data calculated by the local, fine-scaled models.
