Micromechanical deformation analysis of beta alloy titanium in elastic and elastic/plastic tension

摘要
An experimental analysis was conducted to document micromechanical behavior of a large grain beta alloy titanium in elastic and elastic/plastic tension. The deformation associated with individual grains was measured by microscopic moire interferometry. After subtracting uniform strains, the multiplied fringe patterns revealed strong anomalies. The anomalous deformation was documented even at the early stage of loading. Slip along grain boundaries was not observed, but strong shear strains developed within the grains near grain boundaries.
